Do you know of a product which has changed its name?

Smarties

Post by Bluebottle » Fri Feb 18, 2005 9:56 pm

Calm down before you get too excited, they aren't changing the name of Smarties.

But, they are changing the packet they come in. No longer the familiar round tube with a plastic cap (with a letter on the underside!), now they will come in an octagonal tube, with a paper cap. They reckon it'll make them 'fresh and interesting' for youngsters. More likely, it'll be cheaper to make them that way....

? This place has become impossible. Nothing to eat, freezing cold and now a madman on the prowl outside with eels.

But that's all wrong! It was bad enough when they changed the packaging the cheap 'n' nasty tat is today. There used to be a proper card disc at the bottom, but now it's a square of thin thin thin card with the corners bent back and I'm sure the top is cheaper 'n' nastier too.

But this! This is all wrong! Where will they put the letter?

This comment on the web page made me laugh:
Ron Johnson, UK wrote:I've spent the last 32 years building a two storey house for my family entirely out of Smarties tubes, using the lids as flooring, paving stones and a driveway. I estimated to be finished by 2008, but if the hexagons come in, I'm going to have to redo the whole roof.

Image I'm afraid the cold, hard facts are that they have to continually look at ways to make things cheaper............. look at "Bounty" you used to get two cardboard sleeves holding the two pieces of chocolate......... there's nothing now........... two pieces of chocolate and a wrapper - can't get much cheaper than that.
The other way they do it as well, is to slowly reduce the size of the confectionary delight.............. classic example of that is the "Wagon Wheel"
It has to be done or else everything would be produced in Asia, or the emerging Eastern Bloc countries, where the labour and the technology is cheap.

You could - you could only get one piece of chocolate in it :(

That does ring a (very quiet!) bell with me. Don't think it lasted very long...

Not to questions about Bounties they don't...

What were the questions that only Smarties had the answer to?
