Opal Fruits, like Marathons, became the victim of international branding.

I'm not sure it's a great loss to the language that the name was changed, as Lynne Truss suggests on p.83 of Eats, Shoots and Leaves, however. A loss to British culture, yes, but not to the language.

But the name changed everything! as soon as the name was changed they got smaller and started bringing out new flavours!!
Some of them were quite nice but you know wat i mean!
Plus now i get my opal fruits and in their individual wrappers they are only half the size of what they are packed in, like its been broken off or cut off!

Yeah but even so i hope that everyone knows what I'm talking about by the wrapper only being half full with an opal fruit?!?
Starburst is a rubbish name anyway! Its not a burst of stars for one its just fruity sweets, so at least opal fruits had some relevance to the thing it was talking about!
