TIPPY

Post by martinR » Sun Jan 16, 2005 12:26 pm

Tippy as it was known in my area of Scotland was where you selected an area of wall and proceeded to take turns to kick a ball off it. You only had one chance to hit the ball and if you missed the target area you were out. The trick was to hit the ball to an area where it would be difficult to hit the wall from or if you were brave you would kick the ball on the volley. A simple game with only one piece of equipment (ball) and as many people as you want. :D

Two pieces of equipment, surely: the ball and the wall?

Also known as Squash down south. Very simple game but great fun, we used to play it for hours until it was too dark to see. Also World cup, or In the bucket (sinbin). The wall we sometimes used was the side of my mate's dad's garage and if someone kicked the ball too high it would float over the top. There would be cries of "oh s**t", and then the smash of glass, and his mum would come out screaming and shouting because the greenhouse had taken a direct hit again. We daren't go near their house for days after.

Ack! I'm trying to rack my brains to think of what this was called up this way... maybe when I'm more sober...
? I must have some booze. I demand to have some booze.
? This place has become impossible. Nothing to eat, freezing cold and now a madman on the prowl outside with eels.

Ah! Just remembered - it was SPOT. Each miss of the wall earned you a letter (S then P etc)
