Hillman Hunter

Post by Xetal » Sun Oct 21, 2007 11:24 pm

I was cruising up the M23 today at my usual 90-odd, when an old-L-reg Hillman Hunter overtook me like a bat out of hell. Never though much of them at the time, but I was amazed at how fast the guy in his fifties who was driving it was getting it to go.

Did they always do an easy ton like that? (I wonder how good his brakes were....)
Sworn, b'loody!

My dad had an Hillman Hunter.

Never liked 'em much myself, always thought of them as an 'old man's' car. :?

Might have been a Hunter GLS - very fast car in its time. The old man had one and he loved it. The engine was developed by Holbay who were best known for their racing engines, and the car had a lot of success in production saloon car racing. So don't under-estimate the humble Grunter!

We used to have a Humber Thingamebub, which was the 'upmarket version'. Sadly, it was a little past it's best when we had it... :?
? I must have some booze. I demand to have some booze.
? This place has become impossible. Nothing to eat, freezing cold and now a madman on the prowl outside with eels.

When I was 17, and before I had a car, I'd get a ride to work from a lady called Wendy. Now Wendy drove a Hillman Hunter. She also wore lovely short skirts and dresses. My whole 40 minute ride was stealing glances at her legs. And I really figured, at the time, thet she had no idea. Like... yeah! She knew!

'Course she did - why'd you think she never wore trousers?

I bet it brightened her start to the day as much as it brightened yours!
