I've had two, actually. (BMW 320 se i and a BMW 323 se i- both automatics)

It's quite true that when you are driving a BMW, you do have an air of superiority. They really are very good cars. Unfortunately they are a magnet for car thieves - 5 times I was broken into in two weeks (one of the reasons I joined the Specials) and once the insurance went through the roof I started buying bangers, and would you believe it, not one attack.

You joined a band? The one that sang Nelly the Elephant? My god, you must have been desperate. BMW drivers are just so damn crap.

Interesting how BMW drivers have replaced Volvo drivers in the disaffection of other road users since the 80's...
Sworn, b'loody!

BMW drivers are fair game for any grief they get from us 'normal' drivers

Oh, and the Specials sang 'Ghost Town', not 'Nellie the Elephant'. That was the Toy Dolls. Try to keep up at the back there!

Quite likely. I heard it back in the 70's from my boss when I was working in the Japanese Accounts area.

Another of his was about the Mitsubishi Starion, so called because some pillock let it get into production before looking up how to spell 'Stallion.' That I could believe, though Mitsubishi has always strenuously denied it.
Not that the Japanese can pronounce /l/, of course. They can't tell the difference between /r/ and /l/, which is why the Japanese do in fact say starion rather than stallion. This isn't a feasible exaplanation of anything, however, as Toyota managed to produce the the Corolla. I don't know how they managed to convey the name of it across, however, given that they don't a have "letter" to even represent /l/.

A: "How's this for a name? Cororra!"
B: "Cororra?"
A: "No, Cororra!"
B: "Cororra?"
A: "No, Cororra!"
B: "Cororra?"
A: "No, Cororra!"
B: "Cororra?"
A: "No, Cororra!"
B: "Hmm. Write it down."
A writes: "Coro'a"
B is dumbfounded.
