Nissan Sunnies. And Mercedes Benz.

That would have been easier on the eye if you hadn't used the /'s... :D

I didn't even read that. Couldn't be harssed. Which is, as you now know, a cross between harassed and the other term.

Too technical for you all was it? :P I was simply transcribing phonemes, so I thought I'd use the correct notation.

Not too technical, just not very clear on my monitor... looked more like a pair of squashed Ns on my monitor...

I once had a Datsun Micra - is that close enough?

Nissan was originally Datsun, but strangely, they got a bad name, so Nissan was born. They didn't change the cars, just the name...

(The first Sunnies were datsuns as well...)

Actually, Nissan was always Nissan in Japan, but bought up Datsun in the 1930's and used the marque, especially on its export models, until dropping it in the early 80's. Nissan was only a new name to us foreigners.

Panda's right about the Japanese not distinguishing between 'l' & 'r' - it's when they try to make a distinction on learning English that the fun starts, because generations of Japanese English teachers taught them back to front. When I met my wife she used the reversal as smoothly as a Benny Hill mick-take. It took quite a while for her to get the two sounds right.
Sworn, b'loody!
