Chelsea Girl

Post by buttie » Tue Jun 27, 2006 7:14 pm

I miss the old clothes shop Chelsea Girl. It was a bit like Top Shop with a bit of Kumar thrown in (anyone remember Kumar or is that a Liverpool thing?? - think market stall clothes in a proper shop) It was probably horrible but you know, rose coloured specs and all that.

Chelsea Girl and its sister shop for men, Concept Man (what a hideously 70s name!) merged in 1990 and became the unisex chain River Island.

Ooh well I never knew that. River Island eh? Is it all part of the nasty chain of shops with Burtons, Dotty P's etc?

No, they are not owned by Arcadia, who own Burtons, Dorothy Perkins, Topshop and Topman, Wallis and Principles.

So did I. I remember getting my first pair of trendy trousers there - brown with enormous flares and a waistband that came up to my armpits! I'm sure the men's version wasn't originally called Concept Man though, I seem to remember Mr Chelsea.

Hmmm... that was probably before I was born.

Yes it probably was but there's no need to remind me!

I remember Chelsea Girl and I loved its clothes as a teenager. There was a lot of brown and cream and baby doll type little tops. I remember buying a pair of brown flared trousers with a cream and brown skinny rib top.

That takes me back; one of my all-time favourite pair of trousers came from Chelsea Girl in the late 70?s. They were khaki what we would call combats theses days,
I remember them fondly because I did work for them in the mid 80?s.

Buttie, I remember Kumar, and "Girls Talk" on Church St. I remember that from the jingle on Radio City. ( That was such a Liverpool shop)
I bought a hideous pair of pinstripe jeans from Chelsea Girl Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_29
