I've had a Wispa or two since they were reintroduced. I'm beginning to wonder what all the fuss was about.

I didn't endear myself the shopkeeper with the first one I bought - I asked him if they were old stock.

Re: Hillman Hunter

I was cruising up the M23 today at my usual 90-odd, when an old-L-reg Hillman Hunter overtook me like a bat out of hell. Never though much of them at the time, but I was amazed at how fast the guy in his fifties who was driving it was getting it to go. Did they always do an easy ton like that? (I w...

"Screaming teeth, Atlantic eyes, bombarding the Universe with supersonic sackfulls of mirth" - from Dangerous Bacon by Stackridge. The song title itself has a nice surreal quality.

I can imagine that they would be. It was bad enough at my school when we had a tank of tadpoles that turned into frogs overnight.

Message in a Bottle by The Police.... I always thought they sang "a year has passed since I broke my nose". I think that it was really " a year has passed since I wrote my note", which isn't quite so good. The line "Give me just a lttle more time, and our love will surely grow", from "Give me just a...

Not just books, more a way of life.... To complement the books, and to generate interest (and also the sales of more of the damned books...) there was an organisation, ostensibly run by one Big Chief I-Spy, to whom you could return your books when you had spotted the entire contents and then receive...

I still remember the novelty of seeing a racing car with logos saying it was sponsored by "Astro-Ball Clackers".

Books of stamps

Obviously you can still get these, but not in the form that I'd call a book - they don't contain anything to read. But cast your mind back..... you'd get a small buff-coloured "book", stitched with thread to form a hinge, and as well as the stamps, you 'd get something to read too. Yes.... advertise...

Parma Violets used to sell well in pubs. The idea was that you'd have a skinful of ale, then scoff a load of PV's to disguise the beer fumes on your breath, and thereby not upset your wife too much. Then you would probably run the risk of making her think you'd been drinking cheap perfume.

Wispa is on its way back, apparantly. Cadburys have responded to an internet-based campaign and done the decent thing. Now all we have to do is get Pan Yan Pickle back on the shelves, and I'll be one very happy little bunny rabbit.
